The Making of Ich Traeume Von Dir
For this project I had the opportunity to collaborate with production designer William Mansell and cinematographer Antonia Schäfer to create a pixilation short– come up with a concept, build a set, and shoot– all in just three days. Collaborating for the first time together, we tried to find common interest and we ended up basing our project on German Expressionism which we all admired. We also wanted to experiment with forced perspective to enhance the sense of depth and distortion in the world we were building and so we ended up building a stop-motion like set. Here you can see the painted textures on the cardboard walls and the size of the set:
Drawing from my background in choreography, I particularly enjoyed directing the movement of bodies in front of the camera. We were also very fortunate to be mentored by Paul Bush who pushed us to follow our instincts and enjoy the process. The fast-paced production was extremely fun and there was great energy on set!
